Get ready for an inundation of blog posts today. I’m going to try & play catch up, before I leave for vacation in…13 hours and get behind again!
This past Saturday was RESCUE’s annual “Cinco DOG Mayo” car wash. Although Sunny is always my top choice, I was super excited to have Mango. Mango is a 70+ lb pit bull mix who is vibrant goldey-red color and has THE most gorgeous green eyes EVER!
Mango is also Sunny’s boyfriend ❤ ❤ ❤ (Okay I actually have no idea if they even like each other, but they look alike & have similar personalities, so in my mind, they’re best friends.)
When I picked Mango up from Dog Days, he seemed exhausted.

I played some good tunes & tried to get him amped up for the car wash, as we drove, but he was still a bit sleepy. That is, until he figured out how to play “peek a boo” with himself.

He literally played that game for about ten minutes. Up-down-up-down-up-down, peek-a-boo-peek-a-boo-peek-a-bo!! I think it was the first time he has ever seen a mirror before!
Once we got to the car wash, I found out that of ALL the dogs I have taken care of and described as social or outgoing, Mango is THE most social of them all. All Mango wanted in this entire world was to play with the other dogs. While I was fine letting him, since his tail never stopped wagging, the other DC’s were cautious of letting a huge, muscular dog near all of the other dogs, who were all very tiny (<10 pounds). Porr Mango 😦

I decided, despite being in flip flops, to take him for a run to get some of his energy out. We went for a one-mile loop before ending back at the car wash, just as the first car rolled up for business. Mango and I took a big “CAR WASH TO BENEFIT CATS & DOGS” sign and headed to the busiest corner, to try & drum up some more business!
At first Mango sat looking cute, but then when I kneeled down to itch my ankle, he hopped on my lap. Mango 100% thinks he is a small Yorkie.

Unlike other dogs, who just lay a paw or their head on you, Mango literally wanted to curl up on a ball in my lap & go to sleep!
After about an hour in the sun holding the sign, Mango wanted to go swimming.
No sooner had Mango laid down in the pool, when his partner in crime, Maverick showed up. (Maverick is a huge black lab mix.) The two wrestled together for about 30 minutes, similar to how Yukon & Dandy used to play when I was growing up. They were so boisterous that we eventually had to separate them 😦 So instead, Mango tried again to play with the other little dogs, while the other dog cartakers still said “no.”

Eventuallly though, Mango had been so kind and well-behaved that Isaac came over to play with him!

Mango played SO nicely with Isaac! At first, he was dominating him, pawing at him from above and nibbling on Isaac’s skinny little legs, but after about 20 minutes, he let Isaac take over. Mango laid on his back & let Isaac run up & down his belly & jump on his face! Then the two laid paw to paw, giving each other kissies! It was cool to see how Mango played so exceptionally well with a huge 100 lb dog (Maverick), then turned right around and played just as nicely with a little teeny dog. I was proud of him! I also realized that he is surely the leader of the Dog Days playtime pack, likely waking everyone up in the morning like a little kid on Christmas so that he has playmates!
After all of the playing & time in the sun, Mango literally passed out when we went back to the corner to hold the sign.
He kept sleeping too on the way home! I tried to get him to wake up & pose for a picture, but poor guy could barely keep his eyes open!

I really enjoyed my time with Mango and would have loved to have taken him for a run, but we only spent 7:30-1PM together since I had so many Europe-related things to get done still that day! He really was a cool dude.
